After making a spectacular effect with Celta Vigo during the previous campaign, Gabri Veiga is generally considered to be one of the jewels of Spanish football.
This summer, top European teams like Real Madrid were reportedly interested in signing him after he had a breakthrough season on the field.
To everyone’s amazement, however, Veiga ended up relocating to Saudi Arabia and signing up with Al Ahli for a sum that was roughly equivalent to €40 million. Because of his choice, Veiga became one of the first young European players of merit to play for the Saudi football team.
However, not everyone was pleased with Veiga’s decision to relocate to Saudi Arabia; in particular, Toni Kroos voiced his disapproval of the midfielder’s decision. Even the German referred to the judgment as “embarrassing” in his commentary.
Carvajal is a supporter of Veiga.
Dani Carvajal, another member of Kroos’ Real Madrid club, was a guest on Jorge Valdano’s show and shared his thoughts on Veiga’s decision to relocate to Saudi Arabia.
Even if the young Spaniard’s decision to transfer to the Middle East was likely influenced by financial concerns, the aging right-back has expressed his support for the young player’s decision.
“I have no trouble understanding you. After arriving in Germany and signing a contract for a period of five years, the first thing I did was purchase a home for my parents. In the end, everything comes down to financial assistance and whether or not you are able to assist your family, remarked Carvajal (source: Mundo Deportivo).
The superstar of Real Madrid went on to explain how Veiga’s career may have taken a different path if the midfielder had signed with a European club.
“It is imperative that you comprehend the young man. In the end, the young man has the opportunity to play for Napoli and make a million euros, but there is also a chance that he may suffer an injury during his career, or that his career will not proceed in the direction that he hopes it would, and everything will go wrong.”I can see where you’re coming from,” he added.
It is important to remember that Napoli were not the only club interested in Veiga; Real Madrid was also a contender for his services.
However, when Jude Bellingham and Arda Guler joined the club, the Spanish giants decided against making a move for the player who once played for Celta Vigo. Instead, the player will try to begin the next stage of his professional career.
