Thibaut Courtois tore his ACL during practice this year, dealing a serious setback to Real Madrid. He is still rehabilitating from the terrible injury that kept him out of the game for almost the whole season.
Last season, Andriy Lunin, his deputy, filled in for him for seven games while maintaining three clean sheets. He was anticipated to take over the goal in Courtois’ absence because both the coaches and the supporters were pleased with his performances.
Nevertheless, Madrid made the decision to look for a new goalkeeper in the summer and signed Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga. Before suffering an injury of his own, the Spaniard provided a couple of respectable games, allowing Lunin to step in.
Although both goalkeepers have performed admirably thus far this season, it is obvious that Madrid is not entirely satisfied with either. According to reports, Kepa will return to Chelsea at Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season, and Lunin may go with him.
Meanwhile, an AS story states that Madrid is “quietly” looking for a new goalkeeper right now.
Seek a lasting resolution
The Madrid board is searching for a young goalie who can serve as Courtois’ backup for a few seasons before taking over as the starting choice from the Belgian. This is because they want a long-term answer in goal.
The existing deal with Courtois expires in the summer of 2026. By then, he will be 34 years old, which is not an exceptionally ancient age for a goaltender, but Madrid wants to have a long-term solution available.
Keep an eye out for Randall Rodriguez
Madrid is keeping an eye on Uruguayan wonderkid Randall Rodriquez, one of the goalkeepers. He works as a professional with Penarol in the Uruguayan Primera Division at the age of twenty.
Rodriguez enjoys great popularity in South America and is predicted to arrive in Europe by 2025, if not earlier.
