In less than a week, the winter transfer window will open, and no team is more eagerly awaiting it than Real Madrid.
Following David Alaba’s season-ending injury, Los Blancos aim to bolster their defense in January. In recent days, they have been connected to a number of elite defenders.
However, Los Blancos believe a long-term replacement for the center-back position is necessary. Eder Militao is the only viable long-term option, since both Alaba and Antonio Rudiger are past thirty.
The white team is unable to accomplish two goals at once since elite center backs are unavailable in the middle of the season. So, it seems like they’ve figured out a way to accomplish both goals.
An astute signing
El Chiringuito disclosed that Real Madrid is looking to sign a defender in January, but just for the near future. They have a bigger signing scheduled for the summer, thus they will only bring in the player on loan for a period of six months.
It is important to remember that Los Blancos have previously announced their intention to sign Alphonso Davies and Kylian Mbappe during the summer transfer window.
Additionally, it seems that the team plans to sign a new long-term center defender in July 2024.
Leny Yoro, the adolescent sensation from Lille, seems to be the team’s long-term goal. At just eighteen, the Ligue 1 youngster has already established himself as a regular starter for Paulo Fonseca’s squad and been one of his team’s best players this season.
Although it is anticipated that Lille would demand €50 million in exchange for his acquisition in the summer, there will be competition as teams like PSG and Bayern Munich will also be fighting for his services.
The short-term fix
Real Madrid is considering a number of players, including Raphael Varane, Robert Renan, and Goncalo Inacio. But their position of just signing a player for a six-month contract would put off the parties stated above.
Thus, Los Blancos might have to rely on lesser-known players and benchwarmers from elite European teams. The 23-year-old center back Mario Gila of Lazio, a former Real Madrid prospect, has shown promise in recent days.
Having graduated from Real Madrid Castilla, he is familiar with the philosophy of the team and could be the best option in the short term.
