Real Madrid continue to be linked with some of the best players in world football as they are believed to be looking to make a ‘Galactico’ signing next summer. Kylian Mbappe is the most likely option in that regard, with his current deal with PSG running out in the summer. But the name of Erling Haaland has never been far away from Los Blancos rumour mill either.
Haaland joined Manchester City in the summer of 2022 and has been fantastic ever since. He inspired Pep Guardiola’s side to a historic treble last season and finished 2nd in the Ballon d’Or race behind Lionel Messi.
Thus, there is not much more he can wish for on the pitch. Yet, rumours have suggested that he is not happy with life in Manchester as a city and that could open the door to an exit in the future.
A release clause in the range of €150 million for clubs outside of England is believed to become active in his contract from next summer. Could a move to Real Madrid actually be on the cards for Haaland?
Haaland twist after €150 million Real Madrid rumours
Despite the media speculation, Guardiola does not seem to believe that Haaland is unhappy. As reported by the Daily Star, the Manchester City manager said:
“I don’t – we don’t – have that feeling that he’s unhappy.
“He was (unhappy) because he could not play for two months because he was injured, but maybe the media from Spain – and especially Madrid – have more information than us.
“We cannot say he didn’t adapt quickly and he was not fine since he arrived – just the level he showed since he arrived on day one. But we cannot control what people say. What’s important is that he’s happy. And when he’s unhappy, he will make his decision.”
So, it looks like Haaland is happy with life at Manchester City for the time being. And there is very little reason for him not to be. He is scoring goals and winning trophies for fun at the moment. If that changes in the future, maybe an exit would become much more likely.
Real Madrid are the favourites to sign Mbappe in the summer though, with him yet to extend his PSG contract. But as we all know, nothing is ever certain when it comes to that long-running saga.
