Real Madrid has just recently emerged from one of the most successful Champions League campaigns in the history of the competition. They won the “big ears” during the 2021/22 season, going on to overcome Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Liverpool at various points along the route.
However, during the previous season, the team from the Spanish capital was only able to succeed in winning the Copa del Rey. In contrast, Barcelona was victorious in both La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup, while Madrid finished in second place in both tournaments.
After experiencing a setback during the previous season, Madrid seems to be making progress in this season. In addition to being the undisputed leaders in La Liga, they have also won the Spanish Super Cup, which they won by beating none other than Barcelona themselves. This is a championship that they have previously successfully won.
Also, they want to continue much beyond the beginning of the next season, and they are already making preparations for a massive summer transfer window in order to accomplish this.
According to reports that were published today, Madrid is reportedly keeping an eye on the situation with Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool, who is nearing the end of his contract in 2025.
In addition to this, Madrid intends to have a calendar that is pleasantly frantic, since they have moves planned for both Alphonso Davies and Kylian Mbappe.
A prize is on the way for Lunin.
During an episode of his podcast titled “Here We Go,” Fabrizio Romano said that Madrid is also in the process of negotiating a contract extension for Andriy Lunin, who plays goalie.
During this season, the Ukrainian has been filling in for Thibaut Courtois, who suffered an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the preseason and was subsequently ruled out for the most of the season.
Kepa Arrizabalaga was brought in to cover for the Belgian on loan; however, Carlo Ancelotti ultimately elected to use Lunin rather than the Spaniard, who will be returning to Chelsea in the summer. Lunin will be returning to Chelsea soon.
Courtois’s precarious circumstance
As a result of the injury that Courtois sustained in his other knee this week, Real Madrid is naturally concerned about his current predicament. This will prevent him from participating in the 2024 Euros for another two months following surgery, which will cast doubt on his ability to do so.
Courtois’ condition is exceedingly precarious, and his whole career is in jeopardy as a result of the fact that he has had two knee injuries in a row at the age of 31, furthermore on the position of goalkeeper.
Despite this, Lunin has already shown that he is more than capable of earning a new contract with Madrid as a result of his outstanding performances during the current season.
His present contract will end in 2025, and it is expected that he will be given a renewal that is for two to three years.
