Real Madrid are flying in the 2023-24 campaign despite concerns of there being just three forwards in the squad. Fast forward to next season, the situation will be the polar opposite.
Kylian Mbappe’s transfer to Madrid coupled with the arrival of Endrick from Brazil leaves Carlo Ancelotti with five players competing for just two places in the final third.
The heavy competition, unsurprisingly, brings the immediate future of Rodrygo Goes into question. The youngster has been struggling in the final third this campaign and will likely be the one to make way for Mbappe in the starting XI.
Firm stance on his future
As revealed by Defensa Central, clubs from the Premier League are attentive to Rodrygo’s situation and hope to pounce on the opportunity by promising him regular minutes.
Manchester United, in fact, are willing to shell out up to €120 million for him.
Real Madrid, however, are unfazed by the development. They insist that one bad season does not change their perception of the player’s quality, for he is one for the long term.
The offices in Madrid thus respond that they will not sell anyone this summer as it is not an urgent need for the club.
Unless a player himself asks for a departure, Rodrygo in this case, no one will leave even for a mammoth price.
A hard pill to swallow
Rodrygo has always been one to step up on the big occasions for Real Madrid. In his five seasons at the club so far, he has established himself as a potent force in the final third with a knack for goal.
His performance this season, thus, comes across as surprising. While his start to the season saw him go goalless for 13 games, he soon turned his situation around in early November.
During the period, he netted seven goals for Los Blancos in just five games and maintained his high quality until El Clasico in January.
His performance ever since has once again hit the trough. He has scored just one goal in his last 13 games once more and has missed a staggering ten big chances in La Liga alone.
