Jude Bellingham is currently one of, if not the most valuable asset in world football. The youngster has been a bonafide match-winner for Real Madrid since he stepped onto the turn in the white colours for the first time and is currently the talisman of Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
Concurrently, the 20-year-old is also a fundamental member of Gareth Southgate’s setup for the Three Lions and will be instrumental in the team’s ambition of conquering the EUROs next summer.
His heroics for both club and country have won the youngster praise from all over the globe. He has been labelled as a favourite for the next Ballon d’Or and has also drawn comparisons with some of the greats of the game.
Speaking to the media recently, former Real Madrid, Liverpool and England striker Michael Owen gave his two cents on Bellingham’s heroics.
While largely supportive of the propaganda around Bellingham, the Liverpool legend insisted that it was too early to compare the youngster with English greats.
“Jude Bellingham wouldn’t automatically be better than Gerrard, Lampard, and Scholes if he wins La Liga, the Champions League and Euro 2024 next year. He’d win the Ballon d’Or, though.”
“Those players did it for years and years and they never dropped their level. They won multiple titles and they were also Champions League winners,” he added, emphasising that longevity is a critical factor.
Finally, he reaffirmed that he was a fan of the youngster and summarised his stance, saying,
“Jude is amazing and there’s no bigger admirer of him than me, but we can’t talk about him being more decorated than those players just yet. He needs to do it for five, six, or seven years to be up there with them.”
