Journalist Thomas Gonzalez-Martin from El Debate has revealed that Andriy Lunin will remain at Real Madrid for another year.
This is because the goalkeeper has not found an offer that meets his and the club’s expectations, so he plans to stay for the final year of his contract.
It must be noted that Real Madrid have put forward a five-year renewal, but the keeper did not respond to it and now he faces the choice of either signing it or leaving the club for free next season.
Lunin’s future with Real Madrid has been uncertain recently, as he had considered leaving the team. He explored his options, but things did not go as planned.
All approaches have failed
The aforementioned outlet mentions that top English clubs did not make a move for him due to their existing goalkeeper arrangements and new signings.
Additionally, Lunin has not received any attractive offers from clubs that meet his ambitions. He did receive interest from some mid-level teams in England and Italy, but these offers were not appealing enough for him to make a switch.
It appears that leaving Real Madrid would mean stepping away from the top tier of football, a situation that does not interest Lunin.
Real Madrid, on their part, set a transfer fee of €30 million for Lunin, as this price reflects his excellent performance as the starting goalkeeper last season, where he played a key role.
However, with no suitable club coming forward, his agent Jorge Mendes has advised him to stay for the next season, complete his current contract, and then negotiate a free transfer next July.
Real Madrid value Lunin
It is said that Real Madrid regard Lunin as an excellent goalkeeper and a strong backup to Thibaut Courtois.
To keep him at the club, they offered a new five-year contract that would triple his current salary, starting with an immediate pay rise.
However, despite this lucrative offer, Lunin has yet to sign because he wants assurances from manager Carlo Ancelotti about playing time.
He has requested a minimum number of appearances next season, based on his strong performances last year. However, Ancelotti has made it clear that he cannot guarantee a specific number of games.
