Vinicius Jr has suffered his second injury of the season while on international duty with the Brazilian national team, dealing Real Madrid another setback two months into the season.
Vini began yesterday’s game against Colombia and even assisted Brazil’s opening goal via Gabriel Martinelli, but was hauled off in the 27th minute after collapsing due to a challenge from Davinson Sanchez.
The injury was not thought to be severe at the time, but according to Fabrizio Romano, the 23-year-old departed the Brazilian national team camp today following medical checks in the morning.
He will return to Madrid tonight so that the club can analyze his injuries and begin his recuperation as soon as possible. Fortunately for them, the injury is less severe than his last one.
Vinicius had a hamstring injury earlier this season, collapsing against Celta Vigo on August 25th. He was forced to miss a whole month of games, ultimately returning against Las Palmas in late September.
Madrid are already severely hampered by a lack of attacking depth this season, and they cannot afford to lose Vinicius so soon. Fortunately for them, they have already qualified for the round of 16 of the Champions League.
Real Madrid’s injuries are stacking up.
Vinicius isn’t the only Real Madrid player to have suffered a significant injury during the international break.Eduardo Camavinga, who damaged his right knee’s external lateral ligament while training with France, will also return to Madrid.
Meanwhile, Jude Bellingham is injured, while Arda Guler has already relapsed and has yet to make his debut for the record UCL champions.
Madrid is also missing both of its first-choice goalkeepers, Thibaut Courtois and Kepa Arrizabalaga, while Aurelien Tchouameni is projected to miss the rest of the season.
