Yet another game, yet another comeback win for Real Madrid as they defeated Las Palmas 2-1 away from home courtesy of goals from Vinicius Jr. and Aurelien Tchouameni.
Real Madrid were pegged back early in the second half as Las Palmas took the lead through Javier Munoz. But, Los Merengues mounted a fightback after falling behind, with Vinicius levelled things up in the 65th minute.
With less than ten minutes of normal time left, Tchouameni, having come on as a substitute, headed in from a Toni Kroos corner to bag all three points for Real Madrid, sending them to the top of the La Liga standings.
Vinicius hoping to carry on goalscoring run
One of the goalscorers, Vinicius Jr. spoke to the club’s media channel after the match and discussed the team’s fightback after conceding, saying:
“We always have the desire to come back from behind. We started slowly, a bit sluggish, but we managed to change the dynamic and it worked out well.”
Explaining what is the key for Real Madrid to be able to come back from difficult situations time and again, the Brazilian forward said:
“It happens so many times that it seems like it’s normal, but it’s not. The key is not to give up.”
It has not been easy for Vinicius this season as he has suffered two injuries, but has still managed to score 11 goals.
“Hopefully I can continue like this, without injuries, to win many titles this season,” he said about his form.
On his partnership with Eduardo Camavinga, who assisted the goal today, Vinicius said: “Cama’ always tells me that he doesn’t score goals when he gives me the pass, luckily this time I was able to.”
On Tchouameni’s match-winning goal, he added: “It’s a good gift to score the winning goal and now we’re going home to celebrate a little bit.”
Fran Garcia praises Vinicius, Tchouameni
Having started ahead of Ferland Mendy today, Fran Garcia had a solid game at left-back against Las Palmas. And the summer arrival expressed his happiness at the result, saying:
“We have to highlight the work of the team, we continue winning, achieving our objectives and we are top of the league. We are going to try to prolong this dynamic.
“Every player who comes on the pitch tries to add and contribute to the team. That’s very important in this type of match and in a comeback.”
Praising the spirit and attitude of the team, he added: “There are ups and downs during the season, but the team has always been consistent. You see it reflected in the work every day and the dedication of every player. That makes it carry over onto the pitch.”
Garcia then lavished praise on the two goalscorers on the day, Vinicius and Tchouameni. Of the Brazilian, he said:
“Sharing the field with him is amazing. It’s a pleasure to help the team both collectively and individually.”
On Tchouameni, he added: “It’s incredible that Tchouameni celebrates his birthday with the winning goal. Having a birthday at Real Madrid is special and what better way to do it than by scoring a goal.”
