The local Saudi Arabian fans, the bulk of whom looked to be Madridistas, applauded Real Madrid’s victory against Barcelona by a score of 4-1 on Sunday night. The victory was a resounding success! On the other hand, Toni Kroos continued to be jeered and whistled everytime he appeared on the field of play, as was the case when he was playing against Atletico Madrid.
The German midfielder has said in the past that he would never transfer to Saudi Arabia but that he believed those who did migrate there with anything left to contribute at the top of the game were a shame. He also stated that he believed Saudi Arabia did not have human rights policies.
In spite of the whistling, Kroos seemed to be unfazed by the situation, as he had two outstanding performances throughout the quarterfinals and the final. The reaction was something that he observed again on Sunday night, and it was after the first match that he tweeted that he was laughing at the whistling. According to Marca, Kroos did not wear the t-shirt that said “Supercup winners” after the game. This was in contrast to the t-shirts that his teammates wore, which had a large number and a statement written in Arabic. The number 13 represented the amount of victories that Real Madrid has achieved.
