Before becoming one of AC Milan’s top full-backs, Theo Hernandez worked at Real Madrid, when he was recruited from Atletico Madrid at the age of 19.
Increased pressure, expectations, and a fiercely competitive workplace finally drove him out the exit door in quest of additional minutes.
It’s fair to say that the transfer paid off well for Hernandez, who quickly established himself as one of Serie A’s most complete full-backs.
During a conversation with AS, he reflected on his time in Madrid and discussed his future plans.
When asked whether a return to Real Madrid was in the cards, the French international delicately said that he is focused on his present obligations and believes in the trip ahead.
“We never know what life may bring us, but I live in the now for emotional and professional reasons. Nobody knows what will happen in the future. “I’m just thinking about this season,” he said.
Brahim Diaz, who is presently enjoying success at Real Madrid, previously spent three seasons on loan at AC Milan, where he shared a locker room with Theo Hernandez.
Commenting on his former teammate, Hernandez emphasized their deep bond and expressed his delight at Brahim’s great campaign with Madrid.
“From the time Brahim landed in Milan, we had a terrific connection. We’ve had a lot of nice moments together, and I’m extremely pleased with how things are going for him.
“He deserved it.” “I know he has worked hard and has the necessary level to play for Real Madrid,” he said.
When questioned whether Real Madrid regretted letting him depart, the 26-year-old expressed thanks for their belief in him. I prefer to live in the present and the near future, but I will always cherish that wonderful club for which I am thankful.”
Hernandez was questioned whether he departed frustrated due to lack of game time. He said, “Possibly the right circumstances were not given at that time so that I could demonstrate my potential and talent, but I repeat, I’m very grateful to them.”
Eduardo Camavinga has evolved into a multi-talented player since joining Real Madrid, and Theo Hernandez, who has played with him for the French national team, is well aware of the player’s wide skill set.
Hernandez lauded the 21-year-old prospect, joking that he could even play as a goalkeeper if he wanted. “When I saw him play at Left-Back, he didn’t surprise me, Eduardo is a competitive beast, and if he wanted, he could even play well as a GK (laughs).”
When asked whether he believes Kylian Mbappe would join Real Madrid, he said, “I’ve never asked him about it, but Kylian is intelligent and I am convinced that he will make the right decision for his career.”
The AC Milan full-back also praised Real Madrid great Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Cristiano is not only an example; he is a reference and an emblem. He was quite helpful to me when I first came to Real Madrid at the age of 19.
“He was one of the guys that was most concerned about the younger players, making us feel as at ease as possible. “I learned a lot from him, and it was a privilege to share the locker room,” he said.
