Germany confirmed earlier today that they will break ways with head coach Hansi Flick after a 4-1 friendly defeat to Japan, the latest blemish in Flick’s inexcusably dismal tenure in command of the national squad.
Despite remarkable success with the Bavarians – guiding them to a triple – the former Bayern Munich coach simply couldn’t get his players going with Die Mannschaft.
The defeat against Japan was the Germans’ third in a row, and they have failed to win any of their past five games.
In its search for a successor for Flick, German tabloid BILD has mentioned former Real Madrid legend and Champions League three-peat winner Zinedine Zidane as one of the candidates.
Other well-known names are also being considered.
Zidane’s historic club background and the respect he commands as a result of his status as a player might be precisely what a shattered Germany needs.
Despite their brilliance, the group seems uninspired, and there appears to be no tactical framework that sufficiently meets their demands.
The DFB’s president, Bernd Neuendorf, said in a formal statement that letting go of Flick was a difficult choice, but something needed to happen.
“After recent disappointing results, the Council agreed that the team needed a new boost.”We need a positive and confident attitude ahead of the European Championship in our own nation.”
Neuendorf also noted that it was one of the most difficult choices of his presidency so far, but it was unavoidable since sports achievement is always Germany’s top goal.
Jurgen Nagelsmann, Louis Van Gaal, Oliver Glasner, and a few more candidates are also in the running.
