Rodrygo Goes has accepted responsibility for his early season troubles, praising Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti for his continued trust in him.
In the first few months of the 2023/24 season, the Brazilian international struggled for form, scoring only three goals in 15 appearances. That bad run seemed to be the result of Rodrygo’s efforts to acclimate to his new role as a center striker, a position he freely confessed he did not love playing.
Rodrygo has returned to form in recent games, scoring three goals and providing three assists in the last two games before the November international break.
Speaking to Cadena Cope about his recent success, the 22-year-old claimed that boss Ancelotti’s trust instilled in him had a significant role in his recent performances.
“I was overwhelmed because I tried everything but nothing worked.” Everything is going great for me now, and I’m back. “I believe it was my fault,” Rodrygo said.
“It was difficult for me to adjust to my new position as a nine, but now that the coach gives me more freedom to go to the wings, I’ve played better in the last few games.” I can play as a nine if the coach believes I can.
“Ancelotti didn’t tell me anything; we talked about one thing, and another [in the press] came out.” He knows I don’t like playing nine, but I do it for the team and for him because I believe in him. He understood what I was saying.
“Ancelotti is very important to me.” When things didn’t go my way, he was always there to assist.”
Ancelotti has disclosed his strategy to dealing with goalkeepers who lack confidence, stating, “In my career, there have been forwards who have scored in every game and others who have moments when it’s difficult to score.””All you can do is stand by them. A player with the traits of Rodrygo or Vinicius will score sooner or later. They have exceptional quality; it’s simply a matter of time.”
