Real Madrid do need to sign a long-term striker in the near future. Karim Benzema departed for Al-Ittihad in the summer, bringing an end to a 14-year glorious Santiago Bernabeu stint. The club did not really replace him though. Joselu has done very well without a doubt. But he is 33 years of age and only on loan for the season from Espanyol.
Real Madrid must sign a world-class striker who can lead the line for years to come. Of course, Erling Haaland would be the obvious dream choice. Kylian Mbappe could be an option as a centre-forward as well, even though he is at his best on the wing.
One option that cannot be overlooked is Victor Osimhen. He has been one of the best strikers in Europe for a while now.
Last season, Osimhen was the primary reason why Napoli won their first Serie A title since the time of Diego Maradona in Naples. What does the future hold for the Nigerian striker though?
Real Madrid urged to sign €150 million Chelsea target
While speaking to Kooora, when asked who would be the best replacement for Benzema, Gianfranco Zola said:
“I really don’t know. There are many big names nominated, such as Mbappe, Haaland, and even Osimhen, who I see as a perfect fit for Real Madrid.
“But Mbappe is a little different from Haaland, and I don’t think Manchester City will let Haaland leave easily.”
When asked to name just one of them, Zola said:
“I might choose Mbappe, given his talent and personality, he is the right fit, but he is more of a winger than an outright striker, so in my opinion, in the outright striker position, Haaland or Osimhen would be better.”
Judging from Zola’s comments, it looks like he views Osimhen as a great fit for Real Madrid. Also, it could be much easier to sign him than someone like Haaland.
Osimhen’s future at Napoli is pretty much up in the air following recent events. Many people expect the Nigerian international to be on his way out next summer. But even leaving in January is not outside the realms of possibility.
There is expected to be heavy competition for the signature of the 24-year-old. As reported by The Telegraph, Chelsea are set to make Osimhen their primary target when they try to sign a striker
