It was only yesterday that word leaked that Real Madrid had chosen to rule out a deal for Kylian Mbappe for a variety of reasons.
It hasn’t even been 24 hours since the news broke, and French magazine RMC SPORT is already stating that Los Blancos haven’t given up on the French superstar and will go for his signing at the conclusion of the season.
A lot is going on with the Mbappe tale.
On November 4, Real Madrid was forced to issue an official statement stating that no negotiations were taking place between the club and Mbappe.
This was done in response to rumors that the club planned to sign the World Cup champion on a free transfer at the conclusion of the season.
A few days later, it was revealed that Real Madrid is really maintaining their distance from the player, but RMC SPORT has now said the opposite.
There has been no official word from Real Madrid subsequently, however manager Carlo Ancelotti was queried about the transfer after his team’s 3-0 Champions League victory against Braga, and he stated,
“I’m not going to respond. Sorry, but I won’t respond.”
It is a strategic move.
Mbappe’s decision to extend his contract with PSG in the summer of 2021 was a watershed event. In terms of Madrid, they want to avoid the image of aggressively chasing the striker.
This media strategy has a dual purpose: it not only provides a buffer in case the signing falls through, but it also conveys to the player that the onus is on him to put in the necessary effort if he really wants to play at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Nonetheless, the possibility of Mbappe joining Real Madrid remains. Given that his contract with PSG expires at the end of June, President Florentino Perez is open to welcoming the excellent player.
After all, Mbappé is free to negotiate with teams for the next season beginning January 1.
