According to a rumor by Jose Felix Diaz, a journalist writing for MARCA, Real Madrid has identified Florian Wirtz, a player now playing for Bayer Leverkusen, as a primary target for the 2025-26 season.
Since quite some time ago, the club has been keeping an eye on Wirtz. However, recent evaluations have led them to the conclusion that signing him for the forthcoming season would not be a smart decision owing to the fact that the midfield is already rather congested.
For this reason, Real Madrid has decided to postpone its chase until the 2025-26 winter season. In spite of this delay, however, the club has already begun the process of laying the framework for the possible transfer agreement.
It is interesting to note that Real Madrid is in a position to afford such luxury, which enables them to make preparations in advance.
Putting the foundation in place
During this interim period, Madrid is also contemplating the possibility of adding further players, such as Kylian Mbappe, Endrick, and Alphonso Davies. Nevertheless, the fact that they are giving priority to these acquisitions does not lessen their interest in Wirtz.
As Real Madrid has done with past targets such as Jude Bellingham, Aurelien Tchouameni, or Eduardo Camavinga, they have sown the seed for Wirtz’s acquisition. This is done in the same manner.

Within the club, there are comparisons made between the probable signing of Wirtz and that of Bellingham. This suggests that the club is using a strategic strategy guided by Jose Angel Sanchez and Juni Calafat, which is characterized by stealth and patience.
