Carlo Ancelotti has a problem in his own backyard as Real Madrid prepares for their upcoming encounter. Vinicius Jr and Rodyrgo Goes both returned to the club injured from international service, and although the former is declared out indefinitely, the latter is in a similar scenario.
In fact, Vini is projected to remain out for at least a few months, putting Ancelotti in a bind. After all, he is the team’s most devastating final-third resource.
Have faith in Joselu
According to journalist Rodra P (h/t Madrid Xtra), Real Madrid have entire trust in Joselu to lead them through the difficult times ahead. The Spanish veteran is hardly Ancelotti’s first-choice offensive option, but he is used to filling in for Vinicius.
When the Brazilian talisman was ruled out of play earlier this season, Joselu made up for it by scoring four goals and contributing two assists in six games for the men in white. This season, he has a total of five goals and two assists.
A long-term strategy?
The Spanish journalist goes on to say that Real Madrid, Joselu, and his entourage are committed to working together beyond this season.
Everyone expects Los Blancos to exercise their buy clause and acquire the player.
The Merengues only spent a half a million euros to acquire Joselu from Espanyol during the summer of 2017, and they have the option to make the deal permanent for an additional €1.5 million.
That price is a steal when taking into account the production that he has been generating.
It goes without saying that the only thing that will be up in the air about Joselu’s continuity is his position when Real Madrid completes their other summer business.
Endrick is scheduled to come in June, and with Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe expected to sign with the club, it is possible that he will be of little to no significance if he keeps playing for the team.
