Following his success in guiding Inter to the European and Italian trebles, Jose Mourinho went on to become the manager of Real Madrid, where he steered the club through three exciting years.
Mourinho was able to win three trophies during his time in the Spanish city, which spanned from 2010 to 2013. These triumphs were the Spanish Supercup, the Copa del Rey, and the Liga championship.
The era that Mourinho had in charge of Real Madrid is still warmly remembered to this day, despite the fact that he finally found himself at odds with a number of Real Madrid players during his third season and experienced setbacks on the sports front.
Currently, the 61-year-old has revealed in an exclusive interview with Fabrizio Romano (h/t MARCA) that he had a fascinating conversation with Florentino Perez, the President of Real Madrid, at the time that he was coaching the team.
Perez denied Mourinho the chance to play for the national team.
Although the Portuguese coach has been given the opportunity to work with a number of prestigious teams in Europe, he has not yet ventured into the realm of international coaching.
Mourinho has not yet been able to put his ambition of leading the Portugal national team into action, despite the fact that it is a very strong passion of his.
However, he disclosed in a recent interview that he had been offered two possibilities to take charge of the national team, most notably during his time at Real Madrid. He acknowledged that he had been provided with these options.
When I was invited to join the national team on two separate occasions, the door was opened for me. The first time was while I’d been working for Real Madrid.
On the other hand, Florentino informed me that it was not feasible to assume both jobs simultaneously. It was a few months prior to the time when you terminated my employment at Roma. “However, I do not feel any regret,” he proclaims.
With the exception of Porto, Inter, and Real Madrid, Mourinho stated that he has often been entrusted with the responsibility of being “more than a coach” at various teams.
“I have been more than just a coach in many different situations. On the other hand, this is hardly the best possible circumstance as it is. During my time as a coach, I only worked at Porto, Inter, and Real Madrid… Nevertheless, there have been many other teams in which I have been required to be much more than a coach,” he asserted himself.
