Nico Williams, who now plays for Athletic Club and has a contract that will run out in 2024, has quickly become one of the most highly sought after players on the transfer market owing to the enormous potential he has.
Even if there have been rumors that he would be signing a new deal with the Basque club, nothing is official just yet, and teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid are still monitoring the status of the 21-year-old winger.
The Catalan club Barca has shown an interest in the Spanish national team player for some time now, but Real Madrid has also shown an affinity for the promising young attacker.
The offer was made by Real Madrid. It was Nico Williams.
In the middle of this, MARCA writer Jose Felix Diaz reports (via Madrid Xtra) that Real Madrid have been presented with the option to acquire Nico Williams from Athletic Club. Diaz is a contributor to MARCA.
Williams has been one of the players who has emerged as a breakthrough star in La Liga over the course of the last year or so. He has been in very excellent form this season, having registered a total of one goal and seven assists from ten games in the league.
It is not surprising that elite teams have taken notice of Williams given his talent and ability, but this becomes even more apparent when one considers the contractual predicament he is in at Athletic.
Williams is not being considered for a deal by Real Madrid.
The aforementioned article notes, however, that despite Real Madrid having been presented with the opportunity to acquire Nico Williams, the club is not currently exploring the possibility of doing so.
It is important to keep in mind that Los Blancos are looking to bring in a big offensive addition for the summer after this one. They have been associated for a long time with players like Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland, and it seems probable that one of these two superstars will go to Spain.
As a result, a move for Nico Williams may not be pursued by the Merengues, particularly if the 21-year-old ends up signing a new deal with Athletic Club. This is because the transfer could not be worth the Merengues’ time.
