The circumstances surrounding Luka Modric at Real Madrid have undergone a significant transformation, as he went from being one of the first names on the teamsheet for the major games during the previous season to not seeing any minutes during this term.
The midfield legend, who is 38 years old, signed a new contract in the summer of last year, taking into consideration the possibility that things would not be the same and that Carlo Ancelotti might begin to rely on him less and less.
During the first half of the season, everything seemed to be going in a negative direction for Modric; nevertheless, the situation has become even more dire in recent times.
Modric did not start any of the critical matches that have taken place over the previous several weeks, including those against Atletico Madrid, Girona, and RB Leipzig. In all, he played just 36 minutes.
It is tough for Modric to maintain consistency at Real Madrid.
It is for this reason that AS is stating that Modric is conscious of the fact that his continued presence at Real Madrid beyond the current season is tough to maintain given the current circumstances.
Given the present state of affairs, it is quite likely that the midfielder’s current deal with the Merengues will be his last one at the Santiago Bernabeu. The contract is set to expire at the conclusion of the current season.

Because Modric has participated in 27 matches across all competitions so far in the 2023–24 season, he has even managed to score a goal and provide six assists, demonstrating that he is still capable of making significant contributions at the top level despite his advanced age.
On the other hand, as was said previously, Ancelotti has been neglecting the veteran midfielder as of late, even when the game is of significant importance.
There have been a total of 1374 minutes played by Modric for Real Madrid this season, and he is now ranked sixteenth on the list of players that the manager has used the most throughout this season. Only fifteen of the thirty-five matches that Los Blancos have played so far this season have been begun by the Croatian international coach.
Recently, when manager Carlo Ancelotti was questioned about the issue involving Luka Modric, he responded by saying, “He is a legend, and he has to make the decisions.”
Considering the fact that the circumstances are deteriorating, it is possible that Modric may finally make the decision to leave Real Madrid and go on with his life.
