The 2024-25 season has been tricky for Real Madrid so far as the signing of Kylian Mbappe did more harm than good to the team’s dynamics.
The Frenchman’s signing may prove more beneficial in the years to come when he carves out a place for himself in the setup. Until then, however, Real Madrid appear set to bank on Vinicius Jr to make the difference and he has not disappointed.
Despite being snubbed of the Ballon d’Or, the Brazilian winger has proved week in and week out why he is the team’s difference maker and he is now aiming for the stars.
A man of his word
“I’ll do it 10x if I have to. They’re not ready,” Vinicius wrote on his social media after finishing second on the Ballon d’Or standings, and he is indeed looking to prove his words true.
As revealed by AS (h/t RM4Arab), the winger has set a target for himself to score a staggering 50 goals for Real Madrid this season and thus aims to better his tally from last season.
Vinicius led Real Madrid from the front last season, scoring 15 goals in La Liga, six in the UEFA Champions League and three in the Spanish Super Cup.
Needless to say, his final tally was far from the target he set this season, and he was already a favourite for the Ballon d’Or with those numbers.
This season, the Brazilian has eight goals in La Liga already and four in the UEFA Champions League and is thus on 12 goals as it stands. Should he hit the 50-goal mark, it will be one of the most impressive runs in recent history.
