Jude Bellingham was the most dominant candidate as he won the prestigious Kopa Trophy at the 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony. He also bagged the Tuttosport’s Golden Boy award.
These accolades were simply an acknowledgment of an excellent start to a Real Madrid career for Bellingham, who has racked up 15 goals and four assists since joining the club.
Bellingham’s productivity, coupled with his maturity and leadership qualities have made him an indispensable figure in the Real Madrid setup.
Roberto Carlos backs Bellingham to win Ballon d’Or
Amid the Englishman’s unparalleled success at such a young age, former Real Madrid great Roberto Carlos has recently given his verdict on the player.
In fact, the former left-back has backed Jude Bellingham to reach the very top and win a Ballon d’Or title in the post-Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo era.
Speaking to Mirror at a summit in Portugal, Carlos said, “He’s an amazing player and has been doing great with the team. He is still young and if he continues on this path he can definitely reach the top.”
This is not the first time a footballing legend has heaped praise on Bellingham, as others such as Rio Ferdinand, Guti, and even Lothar Matthaus have backed the youngster to succeed in the years to come.
Guti has even labelled Bellingham as one of the best in the world despite his age, which is just a testament to the player’s maturity and pedigree at the highest level of football.
Nevertheless, Bellingham still has a long way to go and as Real Madrid continue to grapple with a lack of goalscoring options, the Englishman must continue his goalscoring form as the season progresses.
