Real Madrid is reportedly in the midst of having a conversation with the highly rated young prospect Paulo Iago regarding the possibilities of extending his current contract, as reported by Guillermo Rai of The Athletic.
However, the report also notes that there are worries that have arisen on both sides about the likelihood of achieving an agreement. These issues have been brought up in discussion.
At the age of seventeen, Iago signed a deal with Real Madrid that was for a period of two years. The contract was signed in the previous year. The young attacking midfielder is regarded as one of the most promising players coming up through the junior systems, and the Spanish champions are desperate to retain him on their team by any means necessary. They are willing to do anything it takes to keep him for themselves.
In spite of the fact that the club has made an attempt to extend his contract, it is not completely out of the question that Iago may depart the club. There have been reports that the player has expressed dissatisfaction with the club. Iago is already attracting the interest of a number of clubs from Europe.
When Iago signed his renewal in 2023, he took the decision to merely renew for two years rather than three. This decision was taken in order to save financial resources. It was believed that he had substantial reservations about his possibilities of rising within the organization, and this move was seen as a symptom of those concern.
Amid fears that they could lose the talented prodigy on a free transfer when his current deal expires, Real Madrid are engaged in negotiations with Iago, with the objective of extending his contract.
Club sources have indicated that they are planning a short-term offer, with the intention of extending his contract by another year until 2026.
Iago, who recently represented Spain at the Under-17 European Championship, has been with Real Madrid since 2014. He played just 20 minutes in Cyprus as Spain suffered three defeats and were eliminated at the group stage.
Sources at Madrid’s academy rate him highly, but believe he should be more patient about opportunities to develop.
Iago is already playing two years above his age group for Madrid’s U-19 side, managed by club icon Alvaro Arbeloa.
A number of meetings have already been held between Real Madrid and Iago’s representatives, yet no agreement has been reached. It is anticipated that further negotiations will take place over the coming weeks.
