Arda Guler’s performances at the ongoing European Championships have further showcased his talent to the world and strengthened his case for a regular spot in Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid lineup.
Riddled with injuries, the youngster’s first season in Madrid did not unfold as he would have hoped. He was only fully fit for the tail end of the season, and the manager understandably did not wish to risk his fitness at that point.
Heading into the new season, there was thus doubt over Guler’s future in Madrid. After all, the player requires regular playing time at his age.
Real Madrid firm on their decision
While Guler is indeed a player with several offers on his table, Real Madrid have no intentions of letting him go as revealed in a recent report via Mundo Deportivo.
AC Milan are one of the teams interested in signing the 19-year-old starlet, with the Italian outfit hoping for a repeat of an operation similar to the one with Brahim Diaz.
Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti have faith in Guler, especially after his recent displays for club and country, and plan to utilize his services more regularly in the upcoming season.
Reports suggest that the management see Guler as the potential successor to Modric. While the veteran will remain at the Spanish capital next season, the Turkish star could well take over a significant chunk of his playing time.
A departure for Guler at this point seems unlikely, and even the player is convinced of staying put in Madrid.
Glamorous at the Euros
Real Madrid’s 19-year-old gem excelled for Turkey in the ongoing European Championships and helped his side reach the quarterfinal of the event. Turkey’s journey ended with a defeat to the Netherlands by a narrow 2-1 scoreline.
In five appearances in Germany, Guler accumulated one goal, two assists and averaged 1.8 shots per game. Further, he created three big chances and racked up 1.6 key passes per game.
Given the limited midfield positions likely to be available next season, it will be interesting to see how the manager incorporates Guler into the team.
The anticipated arrival of Kylian Mbappe is expected to change the team’s formation, after all.
