There was much discussion about Real Madrid and whether they would sign a suitable replacement after Karim Benzema left during the summer transfer window.
Except for Joselu, who joined on loan from RCD Espanyol, the Merengues didn’t add a true striker before the transfer window closed.
But after Benzema’s unexpected transfer to Saudi Arabia, efforts were made to bring an elite center-forward to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Harry Kane was the target of a bid from Real Madrid.
Although it is well known that Kylian Mbappe was always Real Madrid’s top target, the Merengues also gave Harry Kane, who was still playing for Tottenham at the time, a lot of consideration.
And it has since come to light that the giants of the Spanish capital did put together a bid for the England captain.
In fact, Kane received a £60 million bid from Real Madrid, according to The Athletic, before ultimately choosing to sign with Bayern Munich this summer.
Daniel Levy, the chairman of Tottenham, valued the striker at a much higher price tag and was unlikely to accept the offer.
Levy eventually authorized Kane’s departure for a sum in excess of €100 million following protracted negotiations with Bayern Munich.
Kane was desired by Ancelotti for Real Madrid.
In order to replace Benzema in the summer, manager Carlo Ancelotti reportedly asked the team to sign Kane.
However, due to worries about Kane’s age and price tag, the club administration, led by president Florentino Perez, decided against a move.
Joselu was the only centre-forward who ultimately signed, despite club officials’ constant belief that the veteran could be a key player, as he has been doing over the past few games.
