In a few days, Real Madrid will take on La Liga title contenders Girona in a clash that will have huge repercussions on the race for the crown.
Real Madrid spurned an excellent change to stretch their lead at the top of the table when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Atletico Madrid last Sunday.
And, they will be eager to avoid another misstep against Girona, who are currently second in La Liga, just two points behind Carlo Ancelotti’s men.
Fitness concerns for Real Madrid
Heading into the contest, though, Real Madrid have some important fitness concerns to deal with, which could affect their chances on Saturday.
As per Mundo Deportivo, two key players, Vinicius Jr. and Nacho Fernandez, did not train with the rest of the squad today and only did some light work inside the gym.
It must be remembered that Vinicius was withdrawn from the starting lineup against Atletico minutes before kickoff due to cervical discomfort. It has since been reported that the issue is more serious than initially anticipated, casting doubts on his involvement against Girona.
Vinicius did not train with the group today and even left the Valdebebas facilities much earlier than the rest of the players, raising further question marks over his fitness.
During the match against Atletico Madrid that took place over the weekend, the only center back that Carlo Ancelotti had available to him was Nacho, who is the captain of Real Madrid.
Concerns have been raised at the Bernabeu as a result of the fact that he, too, participated in indoor work today and did not attend team training.
In addition, Antonio Rudiger, who is currently recuperating from an injury, practiced on the grass by himself. However, there is hope for his comeback before the match against Girona. Regarding Nacho and Vinicius, a more precise information is anticipated to be made available in the days ahead.
Brahim Diaz performed well in Vinicius’ absence and would come back into the starting lineup if the Brazilian is unable to play. Dani Carvajal and Aurelien Tchouameni, who has returned from suspension, would be compelled to start at center back for Carlo Ancelotti in the event that both Nacho and Rudiger are not able to continue playing.
