Real Madrid are eyeing their first trophy of the new season as they take on perennial rivals FC Barcelona, in the final of the Spanish Super Cup this evening.
This will be a rematch of last year’s Super Cup final, where Real Madrid slumped to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Barcelona.
However, with Barcelona struggling with injuries and a lack of form, Real Madrid have an excellent chance of seeking retribution.
Not to mention, barring the long-term absentees, Real Madrid have very few casualties heading into the contest, with even Dani Carvajal likely to be available tonight.
Real Madrid to make one change vs Barcelona
Nevertheless, after a hard-fought win over Atletico Madrid in the semifinal this midweek, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti could make one change in the starting eleven against Barcelona.
The change could come in to the form of Toni Kroos replacing Luka Modric in the middle of the park.
Kroos appeared from the bench in the semis against Atletico, but the German’s control and ability to orchestrate things from the middle could prove to be crucial against a Barcelona team likely to be boosted by the return of Pedri.
Although everything suggests Kroos will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season, the former Bayern Munich superstar has continued to produce brilliant performances for the club this season.
Kroos’ leadership and experience in the middle of the park have been crucial in helping out an otherwise young Real Madrid midfield.
As for the starting eleven concerned, Kroos’ introduction is likely to be the only change for Real Madrid. Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni should retain their spot in midfield, whereas Rodrygo and Vinicius could continue to lead the frontline.
