Real Madrid have suffered fitness blows to no end this season. Almost every big name in the squad has sat on the sidelines once at this point in the campaign, but two players have been regulars on the fringe from the very beginning.
Eder Militao and Thibaut Courtois, both of whom suffered ACL injuries early in the campaign, have been working hard to force a comeback ahead of the projected timeline.
Both players are now in the final stage of their recovery, already working with the ball on the lawns of the Valdebebas.
A minor setback
As revealed by MARCA, Militao returned to the field to work on the final stages of his recovery as early as January 20th.
The Brazilian was expected to be available by this point in the season but has unfortunately missed the premature re-entry point.
Militao suffered a minor relapse in his injury, forcing him to take a few steps backwards in his recovery. However, he is now back on track and working with the ball on the training ground.
Needless to say, Los Blancos prioritise the player’s complete recovery, and hastening the process is not on their agenda. After all, a major relapse at this point would be devastating.
Projected return
Carlo Ancelotti was questioned by the media regarding the recovery condition of both Militao and Courtois before to Real Madrid’s match against Valencia the previous week. The match was scheduled to take place after the previous week.
It was thus disclosed by the Italian coach that the players were not too far away from making a comeback to the field, and it was verified that they would be ready the following month, provided that all went according to plan.
The time has not yet been decided upon. However, we must make the most of the international break and then the mini-break for the Copa del Rey in order to maximize our possibilities. They are going to participate in some work with the crew at that moment. Following the 14th of April, after the trip to Mallorca, they could return,” he said.
Militao participated in a portion of the group training session that took place on Monday, and all indications point to the Brazilian player making a comeback in the near future.
