It was a busy week for Real Madrid, who had to churn out a hard-fought win over cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid, in order to book tickets for the Super Cup final.
Real Madrid are set to meet Barcelona in the final on Sunday. But the club suffered a major blow in midweek when Dani Carvajal suffered a knock after the derby.
Carvajal’s knock raised concerns, especially after the defender missed a training session with the team yesterday.
Dani Carvajal back in training
However, a recent report from AS has offered a major update on the fitness of Carvajal, suggesting that the right-back is back in training.
It appears the veteran defender has left behind his calf discomfort. The report points out that he took part in the training session in the lead-up to the final.
Carvajal began by taking part in warm-up exercises with the rest of his teammates. He also took part in the short sprint session, which further confirmed that the player was well past his discomfort.
Available for Barcelona clash
Given Carvajal’s performance in training, the report assures that the right-back is well and truly back and will be available for the Super Cup final against Barcelona.
In fact, Carvajal remains a guaranteed starter in the Real Madrid lineup, where his experience could prove to be crucial in containing the Barcelona frontline.
Not to mention, the Spanish international can cause problems for the Barça defence as well, thanks to his attacking prowess.
Carvajal notably scored an important goal in the midweek semifinal against Atletico Madrid. His 85th-minute equaliser led the game to extra time, where Real Madrid scored twice to book tickets for the final.
