Having struggled with the lack of depth in the centre-back department this season due to injuries, Real Madrid have made it a priority to sign a reinforcement in the position during the summer.
Along with Kylian Mbappe and Alphonso Davies, Los Blancos have added Lille defender Leny Yoro to their list of top targets for the summer transfer window.
The 18-year-old is a much sought-after player in the market, with several top clubs across Europe vying for his signing, including Real Madrid and PSG.
Real Madrid could miss out on Yoro
Now, according to Andres Onrubia on AS, Real Madrid may end up losing to PSG in the race to sign Leny Yoro from Lille in the summer.
It must be remembered that Les Parisiens tried to sign the 18-year-old centre-back in the January transfer window itself, but Lille refused to sell.
However, heading into the summer, Yoro will be entering the final year of his contract which expires in 2025. And with the player reluctant to renew, Les Dogues will be forced to sell or risk losing him for nothing next year.
Real Madrid have been lying in wait to pounce on the opportunity, but the presence of superagent Jorge Mendes could play spoilsport.
The Portuguese agent has not had the best of relations with Los Blancos in recent times. Meanwhile, he happens to share a great equation with PSG sporting director Luis Campos.
And that, according to the report, could end up playing a key role in tipping the balance in favour of the French champions come summer.
Furthermore, Lille are demanding a transfer fee of €60 million for the 18-year-old defender, a valuation that Real Madrid see as excessive, which could become another hurdle in the race for Carlo Ancelotti’s men.
However, Lille president Oliver Letang has a fractured relationship with PSG’s Campos, which might work in Real Madrid’s favour.
