Not opting to sign any other player apart from Kylian Mbappe and Endrick this summer is costing Real Madrid big time this season.
The club are struggling with an injury crisis, especially in midfield, with several players sidelined heading into tonight’s encounter against Real Sociedad.
Real Madrid have limited options in defence too, especially with Nacho Fernandez leaving in the summer while David Alaba continues to be sidelined with an injury.
This has forced Real Madrid to keep an eye on the market, even after the summer transfer window came to a shut at the end of August.
Juni Calafat attended Tottenham vs Arsenal game
According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid’s chief scout, Juni Calafat, will be in attendance in the upcoming North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham.
His presence in the game comes against the backdrop of Real Madrid’s interest in two central defenders, William Saliba and Cristian Romero.
Both players have been linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu in the recent past and as per reports, Calafat will be keeping an eye on both in the upcoming North London derby.
Real Madrid believe both defenders possess ‘enormous potential’ and could prove to be an asset for the club in the years to come.
Can Real Madrid sign Romero or Saliba?
Real Madrid’s bid to sign Romero or Saliba, though, could be far from straightforward.
Both defenders have a contract which does not expire until 2027 and does not include any release clauses.
This would allow the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham to demand a fortune for the defenders, perhaps even breaching the €100 million mark.
Real Madrid, though, have not been shy of breaking the bank for good players and therefore, it will be interesting to see how this transfer saga evolves in the coming months.
