One of the most frequently discussed issues during the just closed summer transfer window was Real Madrid’s search for a new striker.
After losing Karim Benzema, many believed Los Blancos were in desperate need of a big-name acquisition for the weak number 9 position.
Despite this, Real Madrid did not take any concrete moves in this direction after signing Joselu.
It’s all part of the plan.
According to Guillermo Rai, the offices at Santiago Bernabeu were always confident in Joselu’s capacity to score goals.
They recognized his expertise and took into consideration the fact that he scored 16 goals for a demoted team when recruiting him.
Contrary to common opinion, his presence was never intended as a backup plan. The board had always anticipated him to be more prominent than predicted.
That reality has become evident after five games into the current season.
A lovely start to life in white.
Joselu started the season on the bench for Los Blancos, making only brief appearances late in games. However, his fortunes changed in the third game of the season when Vinicius Jr leapt off the field hurt.
With the Brazilian sensation sidelined, Ancelotti turned to Joselu to make his impact on the pitch. The Spaniard almost poetically assisted Jude Bellingham’s winner against Celta Vigo.
The veteran then began the team’s home game against Getafe and scored the equalizer, leading to Real Madrid’s comeback triumph.
He scored again for the Merengues against Real Sociedad last night. He did, however, assist to the winning goal this time.
The Spaniard has the goal-scoring ability that Real Madrid sorely lacked after the departure of Karim Benzema.
Joselu’s efforts have undoubtedly earned him a berth in the starting lineup, and it will be intriguing to watch how the management controls his game time following Vinicius’ return.
