Andriy Lunin’s tenure as Real Madrid’s number-one goalkeeper is going to expand further following a fresh injury blow to Thibaut Courtois.
The Belgian, who had picked up a serious ACL injury at the start of the season, has recently picked up another injury, thus forcing him back on the sidelines for an extended period.
Courtois’ fresh injury will effectively make Lunin Real Madrid’s first-choice goalkeeper until the end of the season.
Real Madrid open talks with Lunin over new contract
Despite the presence of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has continued to put his faith in Lunin, thanks to his brilliant performances.
It has not been an easy road for the Ukrainian international. But the goalkeeper is finally reaping the rewards of his patience and performances.
Now, it appears Lunin will be further rewarded for his contributions, with Real Madrid opening talks with the Ukrainian over a new deal.
According to The Athletic, which indicates that Los Blancos have began discussions over Lunin’s new deal, this is the case. His first contract with Santiago Bernabeu is set to end in the year 2025.
The goal that Real Madrid has in mind with Lunin
Real Madrid wants to make it abundantly obvious that they have faith in Lunin for the long term and that they want to incorporate him into the squad in the years to come, despite the fact that discussions are still in the preliminary stages.
Before settling on a choice, Lunin will first assess the circumstances around him and consider the many alternatives that are available to him. He is going to have a large number of potential suitors as a result of his performances.
