Real Madrid are set to take on Valencia tonight, in what will be the final league game before we head for another international break.
This could prove to be an interesting game for Giorgi Mamardashvili, who may well have defended the Real Madrid goal this season.
That is because Mamardashvili was one of Real Madrid’s top candidates in their bid to replace the injured Thibaut Courtois in the summer.
Real Madrid’s offer for Mamardashvili
A recent report from AS has revealed the details of Real Madrid’s offer for Giorgi Mamardashvili during the summer transfer window.
Shortly after the revelation of Courtois’ long-term injury, Real Madrid approached three goalkeepers in the form of Kepa, Bono, and Mamardashvili.
The Spanish giants offered €5 million in loan fee for the goalkeeper, with a non-obligatory purchase clause worth around €30 million.
It was a good offer from Valencia’s perspective, as the club had the opportunity to make quick money and potentially sell the goalkeeper for €30 million a year later.
Valencia declined to offer
Along with their proposal, Real Madrid, though, also offered an ultimatum to Valencia, giving them only 48 hours to respond.
Although it was a tempting proposal, Valencia did not consider the proposal and did not even respond to Real Madrid’s offer.
At the same time, the club from the capital had already reached the advanced stages of their negotiation with Chelsea over the loan of Kepa.
The Spaniard ended up joining Santiago Bernabeu shortly afterwards, leaving Mamardashvili at Valencia.
Therefore, it will be interesting to see how the Georgian international fares in tonight’s game against Real Madrid. The goalkeeper will be expecting a busy night as Real Madrid look to sign off for the international break on a positive note.
