- Modric approaching the end of his current contract with Real Madrid
- Reports in Spain claim midfielder has already decided to leave this summer
- Agent explain when a final decision will be made
The agent of Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric expects a decision on the veteran’s future to be made in the coming days.
After losing his regular role in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting lineup earlier this season, Modric is getting close to the conclusion of his contract with Madrid. At the beginning of this season, it was generally anticipated that he would leave on a free transfer.
The 38-year-old player, on the other hand, has witnessed an increase in the number of minutes he plays over the last few weeks, which has opened the door to the possibility of a contract extension thanks to a string of outstanding performances.
On Saturday, there were reports in Spain that stated that Modric had turned down the opportunity to sign an extension with Madrid. However, his representative has finally disclosed the truth about his discussions with the team that took first place in La Liga.
“So far there is nothing clear about Modric’s future with Real Madrid,” he said to Koora. Things will become more transparent for us the following week.
“Madrid is Modric’s homeland, and together we will decide what is best.”
It is reported that Ancelotti is eager to retain both Modric and fellow veteran Toni Kroos, whose contract will also expire at the conclusion of the season. Modric may also be interested in keeping Kroos.
As Madrid works to finalize their preparations for the summer transfer window, club president Florentino Perez is scheduled to meet with the two players for discussions in the coming days with the purpose of finalizing their plans.
Endrick will complete his transfer from Palmeiras, and Kylian Mbappe, who did not confirm his move to Madrid when he eventually went public with his intention to leave Paris Saint-Germain on Friday, is expected to join him in the attack. Endrick’s move from Palmeiras will be finalized.
There is a possibility that Madrid will be lacking in midfield due to the departures of Kroos and Modric; however, a change in formation that will make it easier for Mbappe to join the club might perhaps lower the number of midfielders that are required in the squad.
