Speaking to Man United legend Rio Ferdinand, Leny Yoro has explained why he chose to sign for Man United, instead of Real Madrid.
Real Madrid did not sign a defender in the 2024 summer transfer window, despite their best efforts. For the longest time, Leny Yoro was linked to the club but ultimately, he joined Man United.
The belief is that Leny Yoro will still be a Real Madrid player in the future. In fact, there is an unofficial clause which would allow Real Madrid to sign Leny Yoro in two seasons if conditions are met.
Regardless, Leny Yoro is yet to make his senior debut for Man United. He is injured, nursing a setback which occurred in preseason. So, Real Madrid might have dodged a bullet.
Leny Yoro explains why he chose Man United over Real Madrid
According to Evening Standard, Leny Yoro told Rio Ferdinand he chose Man United because they are the biggest club in the world. He also said they have the most history of any club.
In his own words, Leny Yoro said: “[Man United’s] got the most history, it’s the biggest club in the world. And for me to play for United, even when I was young, it was the history, the fans, everything is big here.”
Real Madrid fans must not take this to heart. Leny Yoro is a Man United player, so it would be weird if he kept praising Real Madrid to the media. Of course, he is going to hype up Man United while under contract.
But Real Madrid fans never lose hope. Man United might be the biggest club in terms of history but Real Madrid are the best club in the world and they have been for a long time.
Hopefully, Leny Yoro recognises this and becomes a Real Madrid player in the future.
