As a result of the decision that was handed down by the Court of Justice of the European Union in the case of the Super League vs UEFA and FIFA, the president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, has made a dig at Real Madrid and Barcelona, who are the two teams that are still interested in the project.
It was claimed in the verdict of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) that UEFA and FIFA were misusing their authority when they prevented the formation of the Super League in 2021. This ruling effectively paved the way for the revival of the project in the not too distant future.
Despite the fact that Real Madrid and Barcelona have expressed their satisfaction with the decision made by the highest court in Europe, the regulatory bodies, the European Competition Authority (ECA), and other leagues, such as La Liga, have not responded warmly to the development as was anticipated.
Tebas, who has been a strong opponent of the Super League proposal ever since it was first conceived two years ago, has taken a dig at the idea, suggesting that Real Madrid and Barcelona would wind up playing each other in a bilateral competition. He cites the lack of support from other teams as the reason for his statement.
The chief executive officer of La Liga was cited as saying, “Only one club has come out to support Florentino and his team.” They want to organize the bilateral competition, which will consist of a match between Barcelona and Madrid on a weekly basis. Let’s wait and see which clubs are out there… It is unfortunate that the Super League has not been granted authorization, since this was the original plan.
In response to the fact that the tournament cannot take place under the auspices of UEFA, he said, “On their own, they could very well have done so in the past, just like the friendlies.” It would be impossible for them to participate in the Champions League if they were to play in another international competition.
Tebas continued his criticism of the concept by saying, “We have already seen the model that they have come up with, which is against our leagues.” What does it mean for our team to be the winner of our league if they are unable to go straight to the Champions League?
Should the Super League be successful, it will be detrimental to the fans, football, and the sport as a whole.
Tebas made the following statement in reference to Florentino Perez, the president of Real Madrid: “He never loses.” The atmosphere that Real Madrid calls home has constructed the narrative that they were going to win, and now they have no option but to do so. Take a look at the wording; it makes it quite clear that they do not provide permission to the Super League.
