Real Madrid’s pursuit of Kylian Mbappe continues for the fifth straight year as the Frenchman is set to become a free agent once again after the 2023/24 season ends.
The last time he was close to signing for Madrid as a free agent was three seasons ago. However, he ended up signing a huge contract extension with PSG, making him the highest-earner in European football.
Madrid want to sign him next season as well, and are among teams from the Premier League interested in his signature. In fact, he is free to negotiate his contract starting 1st of January 2024.
And as far as Jose Manuel Moreno is concerned, if Mbappe wants to play for Real Madrid, he must sign a contract with the Spanish capital outlet before 31st January. If he does not, he might not get another chance to wear the white shirt.
Since the World Cup winner becomes a free agent in the summer, he is allowed to sign a pre-contract with any team ahead of the June transfer window.
Other priorities in the window?
Madrid have a few other priorities in the transfer window, like looking for a left-back. They are targeting a move for Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, who is out of a contract in 2025, and will be available on a discounted price starting summer of 2024.
They could also look to sign a centre-back if Nacho decides to leave the club, and if they are unable to sign one in the winter after Eder Militao and David Alaba’s ACL injuries.
A lot depends on Toni Kroos and Luka Modric’s decisions, as well, as they are out of a contract after the season ends.
Not to forget, Mbappe does not exactly fulfill their demands for a striker. The PSG forward prefers to play on the left-wing, where Vinicius Jr is deployed, and even Rodrygo, who is also looking for a place in a similar role.
