Predrag Mijatovic, the former Real Madrid forward and sporting director, has voiced strong criticism of Vinicius Jr. following the Brazilian’s controversial goal celebration in the Liga match between Real Madrid and Real Sociedad.
The game saw Vinicius score a penalty to give Real Madrid a 1-0 lead. However, it was his post-goal celebration that has sparked debate.
After successfully converting the penalty, Vinicius chose to silence the crowd with a ‘shoosh’ gesture. This action was perceived by many as provocative, adding to a growing list of similar displays from the young player.
This behaviour has raised concerns among Real Madrid supporters, who view his desire for attention as problematic.
Mijatovic not happy with Vinicius’ attitude
Mijatovic expressed his discontent with Vinicius’s celebration, saying, “He’s throwing stones at his own roof. He’s throwing stones, especially knowing everything that’s going on around him,” said the former forward as quoted by SPORT.
“He should take this step, calm down a little. We were very happy with the goal, but then we were very disappointed with the celebration.
“Why does he need this? He’s doing himself a lot of harm. I speak to many Real Madrid fans who love him, but we’re all upset with his behaviour,” he noted.
The Brazilian’s celebration came in response to the jeers and mockery from the Real Sociedad fans. After scoring the penalty, Vinicius raised his finger to his lips in an attempt to quieten his critics and detractors in the stands.
This gesture was seen as a direct response to the hostility he faced from the home supporters.
Vinicius earned the penalty after a handball by a Real Sociedad defender, which was the first penalty awarded to Real Madrid in the match. He was also involved in the second penalty, further contributing to the team’s efforts.
Despite his contributions on the field, his celebration has overshadowed his performance, leading to mixed reactions from fans and pundits alike.
