There is much excitement at Real Madrid in light of Kylian Mbappe’s likely arrival at Santiago Bernabeu in the coming summer.
Regarded as one of the best players in world football, Mbappe looks set to join Real Madrid on a free transfer and bolster the club’s attacking unit.
That means Real Madrid could potentially have Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo leading the frontline this season.
But despite such an upgrade, Real Madrid have not turned their back on another strategic target in Erling Haaland.
The Norwegian has been on Real Madrid’s radar for quite some time now and it is Florentino Perez’s dream to have him on the same team as Mbappe.
Haaland wants to play for Real Madrid: Guti
Given that Real Madrid are set to sign Mbappe this summer, going after Haaland will be next to impossible. In any case, the star striker appears to be happy at Man City, at least for now.
That is primarily because of the presence of Pep Guardiola. It has been reported in the past that Guardiola’s potential exit from Man City could also lead to the departure of Haaland, with Real Madrid emerging as a potential destination.
To that end, former Real Madrid player Guti has made an eye-catching statement at El Chiringuito recently, claiming that the Norwegian international is keen on playing for Los Blancos.
“Haaland wants to play for Real Madrid,” said Guti, who had played for the Real Madrid senior team for almost a decade and a half.
Guti’s comments will certainly inspire the Real Madrid board, as they look to realise their long-term goal of signing Haaland.
In the meantime, though, the Norwegian is very much a Manchester City player and that is unlikely to change, at least in the next 12 months.
