Florentino Perez has vetoed Real Madrid’s move for 21-year-old Spaniard Athletic Club, with Takefusa Kubo being his preferred target.
Florentino Perez, according to Spanish website Defensa Central, has had his say in Real Madrid transfer affairs. Nico Williams, who has a €50 million release clause, has suddenly surfaced as a target for Los Blancos. However, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez favors a deal for Takefusa Kubo above the 21-year-old Spaniard Nico Williams.
Nico Williams has emerged as one of La Liga’s greatest young wingers since getting into the first-team squad at Athletic Club. The Spanish international has also established himself as a regular for La Roja, having started the season with one goal and five assists in 10 games across all competitions.
Takefusa Kubo, on the other hand, has improved dramatically since joining Real Sociedad from Real Madrid last year. After joining Real Madrid from Los Blancos in July 2019, the Japanese international was unable to establish himself. He went on many loan periods before being transferred permanently.
The 22-year-old had a great first season with Real Sociedad but has improved significantly this season. Kubo has five goals and three helpers in 16 games so far this season. And the teenage winger’s achievements have re-introduced him to Real Madrid. Apart from Kubo, Real Madrid has also been interested in Nico Williams.
According to recent sources, Real Madrid will have no qualms about activating his €50 million release clause, while Manchester City may be in the lead. Nonetheless, with Rodrygo Goes’ form fluctuating, the €50 million-rated Spaniard remains a possible target.
But Kubo, not Nico Williams, is Florentino Perez’s priority aim, and he has blocked a move for the Spanish international. The Merengues are apparently trying to work out a deal for the 22-year-old winger. And Kubo’s great form for Real Sociedad makes him a viable possibility.
With Florentino Perez’s approval for a summer move, a transaction in the 2024 summer transfer window seems to be in the cards. The 50 million-rated Spaniard Nico Williams will have no lack of suitors vying for his signing.
