Fabrizio Romano drops Erling Haaland to Real Madrid update

HIGHLIGHTS

  •  Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, but journalist Fabrizio Romano believes there have been no official talks between the two clubs at this point.
  •  Haaland’s stats speak for themselves, with 67 goals in 70 appearances for City and a major part in their treble-winning season.
  •  While the lure of joining Real Madrid is tempting, Haaland’s current situation with City seems secure, with the club holding a strong bargaining position if any offers come in.

Real Madrid desires Haaland, Erling

The 23-year-old has been a tremendous acquisition for Pep Guardiola, bursting onto the scene from the start and establishing himself as one of the top offensive players in the world, if not the greatest striker in the world right now.

Haaland’s statistics speak enough about the influence he has had for City, scoring 67 goals in only 70 games and helping his team win a historical treble last season.

While the Norwegian looks to be content at the Etihad, there have been some worrying whispers recently, with Haaland linked with a transfer to Real Madrid. The La Liga giants are eager to recruit some of the game’s brightest stars, with Kylian Mbappe being a continuous target, and the City ace would also suit the bill.

A new update has surfaced on Haaland’s possible future, with his present predicament with the Citizens becoming apparent.

Erling Haaland update by Romano

Speaking to Caught Offside, Romano said that Haaland is unlikely to leave Manchester City and join Real Madrid for the time being, since no formal conversations between the two teams seem to be taking place:

“Erling Haaland – The latest big name linked with Real Madrid is Erling Haaland, with the Spanish press claiming he’s their top target now that they’ve decided to abandon their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe.”

“However, I’m not aware of anything about that at this point – I don’t think it’s even worth mentioning whether it’s realistic or not at this point because there’s nothing to decide for Haaland or Mbappe at this point.” Despite some media hype, my honest sense is that both sides are totally silent.”

This will come as a tremendous comfort to City fans and anybody affiliated with the club, given how important Haaland is to the team’s future success.

At just 23 years old, he still has a lot to offer, with his peak perhaps still a few years away, and the goal is that he will remain at the Etihad for as long as possible. That being said, joining Real Madrid is a massive pull for any player, since they are without a doubt the best club in the world, thus it’s not impossible to picture Haaland’s mind changing further down the line.

Manchester City’s contract ends in the summer of 2027, so the club will be in a strong negotiation position if Real Madrid comes calling, presumably demanding a world-record fee for his services.

But it’s difficult to see why Haaland would want to transfer anywhere else, considering that he’s a key player for possibly Europe’s finest team, coached by the world’s best manager, Pep Guardiola.
