Rodrygo, who is penning an exciting chapter inside this season for Real Madrid, has been enjoying a lot of success recently.
The Brazilian’s play leading up to the start of the season was unimpressive, and he entered the season having only scored one goal in 12 league games, which he did on the very first matchday against Athletic Club. Along with that, he only had one assist, which came against Las Palmas during gameweek two. that was a goal.
Regardless of his form, Carlo Ancelotti chose to play him in the front three with Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham this season. He was an unquestioned starter for the team throughout the whole season.
Real Madrid, who were also pleased with Rodrygo, expressed their gratitude to him by extending his contract on November 2nd, even though negotiations had been going on for many months prior to that day. The amount of his income was increased to a satisfactory level, and a brand new release clause in the amount of one billion euros was included in the new contract.
Since then, Rodrygo has consistently delivered for Real Madrid, demonstrating that the club and the manager made the right decision to place their faith in him.
The goals just keep on coming.
Real Madrid played Rayo Vallecano on the 2nd of November, immediately after the signing of the new contract, which resulted in a scoreless tie. Rodrygo did not take part in the opening minutes of the match but was substituted in around the 70th minute.
It was too little time for him to have a significant influence at that point, but the best was yet to come.
In the Champions League match against SC Braga, Rodrygo scored one of his team’s goals and also provided an assist for Brahim Diaz’s score.
A week and a half later, Madrid played host to Valencia and came away with a 5-1 victory. The first goal of the game was scored by Daniel Carvajal, but after that it was all about Rodrygo. He contributed an assist to both of Vincius’ goals, and then scored the fourth and fifth goals himself, giving him a total of two goals and two assists for the game.
Now that he has returned from the international break, Rodrygo is experiencing knee pain, therefore it was anticipated that he would not start today’s game against Cadiz. Brahim Diaz, however, was forced to withdraw from the starting lineup owing to stomach difficulties, and as a result, the Brazilian was had to replace him in the lineup.
Rodrygo was involved in all three goals that Madrid scored in their victory against Atletico Madrid by a score of 0-3; the game began out with Rodrygo scoring an outstanding solo goal by taking the ball past four defenders and putting it into the top right corner.
In the 64th minute, he scored another goal, this time beating two players before sending the ball crashing into the back of the net.
In if this wasn’t enough, he also provided the assist for Bellingham’s goal in the 74th minute, which the English player finished superbly to find the bottom corner.
Making a strong comeback
Rodrygo scored the game-winning goal for Real Madrid in both of their Champions League matches against Chelsea and Manchester City during their run in the competition in 2021/22. He has rescued los blancos from difficult circumstances on several occasions, including the current one.
During the international break, Madrid’s Vincius went down with an injury, while Arda Guler had a recurrence in his condition as well. Rodrygo assumed responsibility for the situation and performed very well despite Bellingham’s ongoing struggles.
Since signing the contract extension, he has contributed nine goals to the team’s scoring in the last four games, bringing his total for La Liga and UEFA Champions League play to seven goals and five assists.
Real Madrid is now in first place, even if it is just a temporary position, and as long as Rodrygo continues to play at this level, it will be very tough to dethrone them.
