Since their change in ownership, Chelsea have followed a similar transfer strategy to that of Real Madrid. They have concentrated mostly on signing highly-rated youngsters from all around the world and of course, South America has been an area of focus. Recently, they managed to agree a deal for Estevao and it looks like an Argentine wonderkid is on their radar next.
The player is Aaron Anselmino. The 19-year-old centre-back has been playing first-team football for Boca Juniors already and has made 10 appearances for the club at the senior level.
Of course, that is not a lot but it seems to have been enough to convince some of the best clubs in Europe. Real Madrid have been linked with Anselmino as well but it looks like it is Chelsea who have taken the first steps to sign him.
As reported by Claro Sports, Chelsea have decided to make a bid for Anselmino, and the figure is $18 million plus $4 million in objectives. According to rumours in the club, it will be accepted since it serves both the player and the institution. Boca Juniors have practically decided to accept the offer from the English club, although it also plans to look at the possibility of having Anselmino on loan for a season
Chelsea make $22 million bid for Real Madrid transfer target
Of course, making a move of that magnitude for a player of Anselmino’s experience is always a risk. You never know how a player’s career turns out. He has faced some fitness issues recently as well.
At the same time, considering the kind of transfer fees it takes to sign world-class players in their prime these days, it is not hard to see why clubs like Real Madrid and Chelsea have been focusing on signing youngsters. If done right, that seems like a more sustainable model.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Anselmino. But for the time being, Chelsea seem to be leading the race for his signature.
