Real Madrid will resume their season this weekend when they host Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Brais Mendez, one of Real Sociedad’s key players, sat down with Diario AS for an exclusive interview in which he discussed, among other things, the challenge posed by Real Madrid.
Brais Mendez about his performance at Santiago Bernabeu
Real Sociedad will make their Champions League début the following week, so Mendez believes the match against Real Madrid is quite significant.
Mendez stated, “We see it as a historic and enormous match against Inter, but we also know we have another great one at the Bernabéu against the most in-form team in the League right now.”
“We must concentrate on that, and only then will we consider Wednesday’s game,” he added.”I remember the first time I played there, which really impressed me.”
Mendez continued, “But if I’m being completely honest, the game I remember most vividly is from last year, the 0-0, in which we made a tremendous effort because we had just competed at Camp Nou in the Cup.”
Brais Mendez, formerly of Celta, has created a reputation for himself at Real Sociedad. The maestro is one of the club’s most significant sources of creativity, with two assists to his credit so far this season.
Mendez continued about Santiago Bernaneu by saying, “It is true that the first time you play there, it amazes you and inspires a great deal of respect, but now we are accustomed to performing on such large stages.”
Mendez responded, “Well, competing as if each ball were the last, suffering, and trying to take advantage of the opportunities you have.”You can’t give up many opportunities because they’ll score on the slightest opportunity.”
“You must take advantage of the opportunities you have.In these contests against such talented opponents, you must be effective,” he added.
Mendez discusses Bellingham, Benzema, and Vinicius.
Mendez also chatted about the Real Madrid team, underscoring the loss of Karim Benzema and how it may influence the squad.
Real Madrid remains one of the world’s finest teams.Even though they’ve lost a very essential player like Benzema, they have a spectacular team. However, they signed very well in the end,” he said.
Vinicius, Rodrygo, Modric, Kross, Camavinga, Valverde… Regardless of who performs, this is an outstanding team,” he added.
Mendez also elaborated on Jude Bellingham’s impressive debut in La Liga, particularly his scoring touch.
“Well, to be honest, I wasn’t surprised; as a football player, I anticipated what I saw.”However, I did not anticipate him to score goals in such a manner,” he said.
Mendez stated that Bellingham’s current form is merely a streak, adding, “However, streaks cost more in the second round.Currently, he can be observed connecting with everyone who crosses his path.”
The Real Sociedad playmaker compared Bellingham’s performance to his own from the previous season.
“Somewhat, because of what I’ve done. It’s just that they are sequences or periods, and you must take advantage of them. Ultimately, you don’t know when the streak will end, but if it persists at this level, it will be difficult to break it.
Finally, Brais Mendez discussed Vinicius Junior’s absence and how it could be detrimental to Real Madrid.
“Man, I always like to face the best, but it is true that it is a very sensitive loss for them,” he said.
