Getafe coach Jose Bordalas made headlines earlier in the week when he made a claim about Jude Bellingham in the Spanish football media.
Bordalas stated that Bellingham was instrumental in facilitating Mason Greenwood’s transfer to Getafe this summer, following the expiration of his contract with Manchester United.
Bordalas offers Bellingham an apology
Bordalas’ remarks about Bellingham and Greenwood elicited many raised eyebrows, and it goes without saying that Bellingham’s entourage was not pleased.
Bordalas had no part in persuading Greenwood to join La Liga, so the Englishman’s entourage was displeased with his remarks.
In a recent media interaction, Bordalas apologized to Bellingham, stating (per The Athletic): “I wanted to clarify up a misunderstanding. I stated that Mason Greenwood visited Getafe because he spoke with Bellingham.”
“I have been advised that this is not the case. I apologize. Mason arrived in an unusual manner. They offered him to me because he aroused our interest, and we were very fascinated. I wanted to clarify that there was no malice involved,” he added.
When he was accused of sexual assault a few years ago, Greenwood found himself in a world of trouble.
After a prolonged absence, Manchester United issued a statement earlier this summer confirming that he will not be with the club this season.
After a prolonged absence from football, Greenwood joined Getafe on loan as a last-ditch effort to revive his career.
Sunday against Osasuna, the Englishman made his La Liga debut and contributed to the victory. Although the forward did not play a major role in the game, all indications are that he will be an enticing offensive option for the club this season.
