Curtains fell on the UEFA Euro 2024 this past Sunday with Spain triumphing over England in the final to be crowned champions of Europe.
It was a joyous occasion for Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal as he added another title to his successful season while the result meant a heartbreak for his club teammate and England star Jude Bellingham.
Having failed to capture the trophy, Bellingham has now also missed out on the UEFA Euro 2024 Goal of the Tournament honour as well, with Lamine Yamal of Spain walking away with the prize.
Bellingham scored a stunning overhead kick in stoppage time for England against Slovakia in the Round of 16 – a crucial equaliser that forced the game into extra time with the Three Lions eventually winning.
It was a special strike from a special player who has become accustomed to producing special moments one after the other over the past year.
However, despite the brilliance of his strike as well as its importance in the context of the game, Bellingham’s goal finishes second behind Yamal’s spectacular effort against France in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid starlet Arda Guler’s wonder-strike in Turkey’s group-stage opener against Georgia has been voted the fifth-best goal of the tournament.
