After it seemed as if Barcelona would be facing at their first loss of the 2023/24 season, they made an incredible comeback to record a 3-2 victory against Celta Vigo.
Indeed, Barca was down by two goals with ten minutes remaining on the clock, but Robert Lewandowski scored a goal to draw them within one, and he then scored another goal to tie the game a few minutes later. Finally, Joao Cancelo scored the game-winning goal in the 89th minute.
The international player from Portugal did not have the finest game defensively, but he more than made up for it with his offensive performance, as he provided the assist for Lewandowski’s equalizer and then scored the game-winning goal late in the match.
Cancelo acknowledged to the media that it was not his finest performance, but he reiterated that he would prefer to play poorly and finish up on the winning side. Cancelo played an important part in the comeback victory, and he spoke to the media after the game.
“It’s true that I was personally playing a very poor match, and I was making a lot of errors,” she said. “It was my fault.” But I tried my hardest to give all I had to the very last, and thankfully we were able to pull through,” Cancelo remarked.
“There is a lot to improve, but it’s better to play poorly and win than to play well and lose,” said the coach. “There is a lot to improve.”
The loanee from Manchester City continued his discussion on how the game progressed by saying, “I think we were doing well.” Celta played with a lot of discipline and made the game extremely difficult for us. The three criteria are the most crucial aspect to consider.”
Once again, Cancelo was self-critical of his performance, but he praised the team’s ability to turn a difficult situation around, as he said:
“During the contest, I completely lost my composure. In this game, I made a lot of technical mistakes, which is not my usual pattern. You need to become better and figure out how to turn the situation around, and we have accomplished that.
When asked about the fulfillment of his desire to play for Barcelona, he said, “This is a dream for me.” I saw Barcelona 2009, the greatest football squad in the history of the sport. And as of recently, I’ve joined Barca’s roster as well. It’s unbelievable, and I just can’t bring myself to accept it.
Cancelo said, “We can’t look at Real Madrid,” when asked about the championship fight with Barcelona’s fierce rivals Real Madrid, who are currently in second place behind Barca after tonight’s match. We have to keep our attention on ourselves and on winning each of our matches. The La Liga is incredibly competitive, and each side has a chance to win against any other.
Cancelo, before bidding goodbye, emphasized that in order for Barca to sign him permanently at the conclusion of the season, he would need to continue producing consistently, adding:
If I turn in a good performance, the club will want to keep me, but if I don’t, they will release me. We have no choice but to go on, yet the preceding three ideas are of the utmost significance.
