A number of players have made the jump from Chelsea to Real Madrid in recent years. Thibaut Courtois and Antonio Rudiger remain key parts of the current team. On the other hand, Eden Hazard is still their record signing. Last summer, another made the switch from Stamford Bridge to Santiago Bernabeu, albeit on a short-term basis.
Kepa Arrizabalaga was signed from Chelsea on a season-long loan after Courtois suffered a long-term injury before the campaign had even started. It was an emergency signing on the part of Real Madrid but could it lead to something long-term?
There has been plenty of speculation around the future of Andriy Lunin. He was fantastic last season and played a starring role in Real Madrid’s double. But when Courtois returned to fitness late in the campaign, the 25-year-old found himself back on the bench.
If Lunin was to leave this summer, Real Madrid would need to sign a replacement. Interestingly, Chelsea have been linked with him and rumours about a potential swap deal involving Kepa have been doing the rounds of the media recently. But there’s a twist in the tale although it could all work out in the end.
Chelsea ready to complete signing amid Real Madrid rumours
As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are now set to sign their new goalkeeper, Filip Jorgensen. The deal is at the final stages with Villarreal after the Blues improved their proposal worth €20 million with add-ons. The player has already agreed terms and it’s a matter of time to get everything done.
So, it looks like Chelsea are set to sign Jorgensen and a move for Lunin does not seem like a possibility anymore. But it does make things easier if Real Madrid want to sign Kepa.
With Jorgensen, Chelsea will have four first-team goalkeepers. Robert Sanchez, Dorde Petrovic and Kepa are the other three. Clearly, it would be ideal if one or two of them departed this summer.
Of course, Kepa is the most likely to do so, with only a year left on his contract. And while a move to Chelsea might not be on the cards for Lunin, there are plenty of other top clubs interested in him.
